Mahatma Gandhi, in his preface
to ‘Life of Sri Ramakrishna’, says:“The life of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa
is a life of religion in practice. His life enables is to see God face
to face.”
In a beautiful song on Sri
Ramakrishna in Bengali, composed by the late Kazi Nazru Islam, the revolutionary
Muslim poet of West Bengal, the poet sees the beginning of the Satya Yuga
or the Golden Age in him.
Satya-yuger punya smriti
Kalite anile, tumi tapas
“You brought to this Kali
Yuga, O ascetic, the holy memory of Satya Yuga.”In his ‘Life of Ramakrishna’,
the French thinker Romain Rolland introduced Sri Ramakrishna as ‘The consummation
of two thousand years of the spiritual life of three hundred million people’.
In Sri Ramakrishna we can
see today what Bertrand Russell demands of modern men. Namely, the flowering
of knowledge into wisdom, without which, as he expresses it, increase of
knowledge will be increase of sorrow.
